Difference Between Afternoon Tea and High Tea

Afternoon tea isn't the same thing as high tea.

A lot people refer to afternoon tea as high tea but they're two different type of meals.

What is afternoon tea?

Afternoon tea is light mid-day meal composed of three courses served between lunch and dinner, usually at 4PM.

What is high tea?

High tea is a hearty evening meal for the working class family served between 5PM - 7PM.

Afternoon tea courses

There are three courses in an afternoon tea.  Savories and tea sandwiches are eaten first, then scones with clotted cream and jam, and finally, sweets.
