Dali Tea at The St. Regis New York

The St. Regis New York hotel has two afternoon teas on their menu. There is Lady Astor’s Tea, their traditional afternoon tea and the second is their recently introduced Dali Tea, which is a Salvador Dali inspired tea service.

The St. Regis New York was home to the artist Salvador Dali for winters in the late 1930s and the Dali Tea was inspired by his work and Spanish heritage.

Was the Dali Tea completely adorable and did I love it? (Spoiler alert: YES and YES.)

How to Order and Eat Dali Tea

  1. Order the Dali Tea menu.
Since you’re there for the Dali Tea, you can see what food is being offered in the menu. Once you order the Dali Tea, you get the food that’s offered — there’s nothing to choose.
  2. Pick a tea.
Take a look at the list of teas and select a tea.
  3. Tea will come out first.
You can drink your tea before the food food arrives.
  4. Food is served.
The food for the Dali Tea comes out on a ceramic paint palette. The proper eating order for afternoon tea is to start with the tea sandwiches first, then scones, then end with sweets.

Astor Court Setting: ★★★☆☆

The Astor Court inside the St. Regis New York luxury hotel in Midtown Manhattan boasts high ceilings and has an open and airy feel to the dining experience.

The decor used to be very feminine with pastel colors and tons of banquette seating, but now it has a more masculine look with black and silver tones.

The feel is a lot more like a lounge for cocktails whereas before it definitely had a more ladies-who-lunch vibe.

Dali Tea Service: ★★★★★

Service was fantastic. They were attentive and friendly. No complaints.

The St. Regis Tea & Tea Selection: ★★★★★

The tea is by Palais des Thes, a French tea company. The tea selection is just how I like it with each type of tea well represented but isn’t pages and pages long.

The tea is curated well and limited to a max of five teas per type. It’s not overwhelming.

I got the Big Ben English Breakfast, a black tea blend that went well with the savories and sweets.

Tea Sommelier’s Tip: Don’t know which tea to order? Black tea goes well with all the courses from savories to sweets.

Dali Tea Savories: ★★★★★

Instead of a three-tiered tray, the Dali Tea comes out on a ceramic paint palette. It’s incredibly cute and I loved the presentation.

I first started with the savories as one should. There are 5 savories to eat.

Dali Tea Scones: ★★★★★

Freshly baked scones is the next course and it comes out separately after we had our savories.

Served warm, you get two scones per person and it’s served with double Devonshire creeam, preserves, and lemon curd on the side.

I had my tea with Bethany and we each had a traditional scone (with sprinkled sugar) and a raisin scone.

I really like the portion size and the condiments at The St. Regis New York tea service.

Dali Tea Sweets: ★★★★★

After I finished the scone course, I attacked the sweets.

The first thing you notice when they bring the ceramic paint palette is the tall easel with Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory” painting which is completely made out of chocolate.

I love show-stopping edible pieces at themed afternoon teas and this was no exception.

Dali Tea Overall: ★★★★★

Loved it. I’m a fan of themed afternoon teas and this was a memorable one. I really appreciate how much thought went into this tea service.
