Earl Grey Tea

Earl Grey tea is a black tea that’s flavored with bergamot, a citrus fruit from Italy. The black tea is usually Assam or Ceylon. Since Earl Grey tea contains black tea, there’s caffeine in anything that’s made with Earl Grey.

Earl Grey tea recipes can be made with loose tea, tea sachets, or tea bags. Loose tea tends to be higher in quality than tea sachets or tea bags. Use tea sachets or tea bags when more than 4 ingredients are in the recipe. The other ingredients will dilute the Earl Grey tea flavor, so there’s no need to use pricier loose tea.

If you want stronger Earl Grey tea, use more than the recipe lists instead of steeping it for longer. Otherwise, the tea will taste bitter.
