If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some behind the scenes of this amazing afternoon tea at Kristy’s. Kristy Mucci, KathyYLChan, Alice Gao, and I had a delightful afternoon sipping tea and enjoying delicious bites of finger food for hours.
Kristy, a food and prop stylist, created the entire menu consisting of four tea savories, scones, and two sweets:
Radishes, cultured butter, sea salt on sourdough
Cucumber, herbs, avocado on rye
Egg, ramps, pea shoots on brioche
Ham, cheese, cornichons on pain d’epi
Fig, almond, vanilla served with Devonshire cream and berry jam
Meyer lemon tart
And yup, everything tasted just as good as it looks! Kristy purchased all perishable items the day before, her prep day, and assembled the sandwiches the morning of to make sure everything was super fresh.
When preparing an afternoon tea at home, it’s a good rule of thumb to make 3-4 servings of savories per person. We had eight, with two of each savory per person. My kind of afternoon tea.
Of course, you can’t have the four of us in one place and not start taking pictures. All of us posted on our Tea at Three on each of our blogs: Kristy (KristyMucci.com), Kathy (KathyYLChan.com), Alice (Lingered-Upon.com).
Kristy is all about fresh, locally sourced food so once she saw ramps at the Greenmarket at Union Square, she added them into the egg salad tea sandwich. (I love how she washed and set aside the pea shoots ahead of time so they were ready to dress the egg salad — I need to remember to do this!)

Kathy, our personal tea master for the afternoon expertly weighed and steeped our Silver Needle Tea Co. selection of teas. Silver Needle Tea Co. only does single estate tea and we drank ours pure, without adding any cream or sugar.
We had four teapots, each filled with a different tea: White Peony, Sencha, Big Red Robe Oolong, and Wuyi Mountain Black Tea. I liked them all, but the Big Red Robe Oolong was the one I kept refilling my cup with, over and over.
For me, afternoon tea is reason to be a bit more *AHEM* civilized, so we all dressed up a bit with clothes from LIE. They have a shop in the Meatpacking District where we went to pick out our looks for the afternoon.
It’s almost time to eat! Kristy, the food and prop stylist that she is, laid out the table beautifully with these pretty Mud Australia wares. Everything from the teapots and tea cups to the little bowls for jam and Devonshire cream were from Mud. We wanted to have a little fun with neutrals, so we have with three Mud colors on the table: steel, ash, and milk.
