  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ¾ cup fresh strawberries thinly sliced or chopped

  • Put sugar, water, and sliced or chopped strawberries in a saucepan. Boil for 6 minutes on medium-high heat.
  • Mash strawberries.
While cooking, use a wooden spoon or potato masher and mash the strawberries.
  • Strain strawberry solids and pour syrup into an airtight container.
Use a mesh strainer to filter out the strawberry solids and discard.
The syrup will keep for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Strawberries are sliced or chopped to make it easier to cook down and mash. Use a wooden spoon or potato masher to mash the strawberries.
  • This recipe makes a cup of strawberry syrup, which is 16 tablespoons. Add 1-2 tablespoons of syrup to flavor and sweeten a cup of iced tea.
  • Store strawberry syrup in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
  • Aside from adding strawberry syrup to iced tea, try it a tea latte to give it a boost of berry flavor. Pour some into a glass of sparkling water for an instant strawberry soda.
