- Instead of loose hibiscus tea, you can use hibiscus tea bags. Make sure the tea bags only contain hibiscus. Replace the 2 tablespoons of loose tea with 4 tea bags.
- White granulated sugar will give the syrup a vibrant red color. Brown sugar can also be used but the syrup will be brown in color instead of red.
- Hibiscus tea stains easily so make sure to wipe away any messes as you go.
- This recipe makes one cup (16 tablespoons) of hibiscus syrup, which is enough to add 2 tablespoons of the syrup to flavor and sweeten about 8 drinks.
- Stored in an airtight container, this syrup will keep for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
