- To make this drink at Starbucks, order an iced espresso with 2 or 3 espresso shots in a grande or venti cup with ice. Add a bottle of your favorite vanilla protein shake and stir to combine.
- This drink can be made with instant coffee instead of espresso. For every 2 shots of espresso, use ¼ cup water with 1 tablespoon of instant coffee.
- The bottled protein shake in this drink can be replaced with a homemade version. Simply mix a scoop of vanilla protein powder with 1 ½ cups (about 12 ounces) of milk in a blender or shaker bottle.
- The espresso can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Use it within 2 days for the best quality.
- Use 1 shot of espresso if you want a less caffeinated, or a less coffee tasting drink. For a stronger drink, use 3 shots. I tested this recipe with 3 shots and it tasted great too. The coffee taste wasn't as strong as I thought it would be with the additional espresso.
