Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon English Breakfast tea (or 2 tea bags/sachets)
  • 2 inch vanilla bean (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract)
  • ¼ cup freeze-dried strawberries
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  • Boil water.
If using an electric kettle with temperature setting, set it between 208°F - 212°F. Filtered water is best.
  • Cut the vanilla bean in half lengthwise and scrape off the seeds inside.
Put the cut vanilla bean and the scraped seeds into a teapot.
  • Add tea and freeze-dried strawberries. Cover teapot and steep for 5 minutes.
Steeping for too long will make the tea bitter so it's best to set a timer.
  • Strain solids and pour hot tea into a cup.

Notes

  • I prefer using loose tea but you can use English breakfast tea bags or tea sachets.
  • I used a black tea (English Breakfast tea) but you can use any kind of tea you like. The strawberry and vanilla flavors work really well with green tea, white tea, or oolong tea.
  • Use vanilla extract if you don't have vanilla beans. When using vanilla extract, stir it in at the very end instead of letting it steep in hot water.
  • To get the maximum flavor out the vanilla bean, make sure to expose the seeds by splitting open the bean and scraping out the seeds inside.
  • I always recommend using filtered water when making tea.
