How to Make Hot Jasmine Tea Properly

STEP 1: Boil water.
With any kind of tea, it’s important to use good quality water so it’s a good idea to use filtered water.
Tea Sommelier’s Tip: Brewing tea for too long or in water that’s too hot is how you get really bitter jasmine tea.
Heating water in an electric kettle with a temperature setting is the best way to get the correct the water temperature for jasmine tea. Set the kettle to 175°F.
Don’t forget to add some extra water to the kettle so that you can warm up the teapot!
STEP 2: Warm up teapot.
Use some of the freshly boiled water to warm up the teapot.
Swirl water around the teapot, then throw out the water.
Tea Sommelier’s Tip: Warming up the teapot helps to keep the temperature stable while your tea is brewing.
STEP 3: Put jasmine tea into teapot and add hot water.
STEP 4: Cover teapot and steep for 3 minutes.
Jasmine tea is usually made with green tea which shouldn’t be brewed for longer than 3 minutes. Brewing for longer will result in a bitter tea.
Keep the teapot covered during the steep so that the tea stays hot.
STEP 5: Strain jasmine leaves and pour hot tea into a teacup.

How to Make Iced Jasmine Tea Properly
Cold brewed tea is the most reliable way to get the best flavor out of your iced tea!
STEP 1: Put jasmine tea and cool or room temperature water in a pitcher or glass container.
As with hot tea, filtered water makes for the best cold brewed tea.
STEP 2: Cover pitcher and put in refrigerator for 6 hours.
Jasmine tea can be cold brewed anywhere from 6-12 hours.
STEP 3: Strain tea leaves and pour tea into a cup with ice.
You can add ice if you like, but since it’s cold brewed the tea is already nice and chilled.

Jasmine tea can be had without any sugar and/or milk or just plain, without anything added.
To sweeten your iced tea, don’t just stir in sugar since it won’t dissolve easily. Instead, use simple syrup. To make simple sugar at home, just mix equal parts sugar and hot water until the sugar dissolves. If you have one, use an electric kettle to heat up the water.
Add tapioca balls, milk, and sugar to make it a jasmine bubble tea!
- Don’t use boiling hot water when making jasmine tea since it’ll make your tea bitter.
- Don’t steep jasmine tea in hot water for more than 3 minutes since that can also make your tea bitter.
- If you’re using a tea sachet, you’ll need just 1 per cup of water. Tea sachets contain 1.5 – 2 teaspoons of tea.
Brewed jasmine tea can be kept in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 4 days.
Loose jasmine tea leaves should stored in an airtight container kept away from light, odor, humidity, and heat.

- Boil water. If using an electric kettle with temperature setting, set it to 175°F. If boiling water on the stovetop, let it come to a simmer, then turn off heat. (Filtered water is best.) Heat a little more water than needed so that it can be used to warm up the teapot.
