Starbucks Matcha Lemonade

Lemonade drinks are some of Starbucks’ most popular drinks in the summer months. There are several flavors to choose from, including the Iced Passion Tango Tea Lemonade and Iced Green Tea Lemonade.

It’s a refreshing caffeinated drink that has a combination of sweet-tart lemonade with the vegetal flavor of matcha. It’s very easy to recreate at home using just 4 ingredients and a cocktail shaker.

The matcha, lemonade, water, and ice are shaken together. The more you shake, the frothier the drink!

Note from Jee

I first made this drink using the recipe that Starbucks used at the time, with sweetened matcha, but since then, they’ve switched to regular, unsweetened matcha. With the matcha, they now add classic syrup.

I include in the recipe how to make it with sweetened matcha and unsweetened so you can make it with the matcha you have.

If you like your matcha drinks to be on the sweeter side, this drink is for you.

Ingredient Notes

Starbucks Matcha Lemonade Copycat ingredients measured in cups and bowls.
  • Sweetened Matcha: Starbucks uses their own branded matcha which is pre-sweetened and the main ingredients are sugar and matcha.
  • Lemonade: Starbucks has their own lemonade concentrate, which they dilute with water to make lemonade drinks but some stores use Simply Lemonade. To get the lemonade to taste as close to the one used at Starbucks, use Simply Lemonade, which can be found in the refrigerated section of the supermarket.
  • Water: Filtered water will always make the best tasting drink.
  • Ice: Make the ice with filtered water is possible.

Step 1: Pour lemonade and water into a cocktail shaker.

Step 4: Pour entire contents of cocktail shaker into a cup.

Recipe Notes

Use pre-sweetened or unsweetened matcha.

This recipe uses a sweetened matcha powder to match the flavor of the drink at Starbucks, but you can swap it out with 1 ½ teaspoons of regular unsweetened matcha if you prefer a matcha lemonade that’s less sweet.

To make the drink sweeter when using unsweetened matcha, add 1 tablespoon of simple syrup.

A lidded jar also works for shaking.

If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, you can also use a jar with a tight-fitting lid as long as it can fit at least 16 ounces of liquid with space for shaking. Other options include a wide-mouth water bottle or shaker bottle.

The brighter the green, the better the matcha.

It’s possible to tell the quality of matcha by looking at the color. If it’s vibrant green, it’s high quality and more expensive. If it’s look dull and brown, it’s a low quality matcha that doesn’t cost a lot.

Expert Tips

  • To make a frothier drink, shake the drink in the cocktail shaker 30 times.
  • Add different syrups for a flavored matcha lemonade. Peach syrup or strawberry syrup would pair nicely, but this will increase the sugar levels unless you use unsweetened matcha.
  • Use sparkling lemonade to make it a fizzy drink.
