Golden Milk (Turmeric Latte)
Golden milk, also known as a turmeric latte, is a traditional drink in India made of warm milk and ground turmeric. It’s called “golden” because of the yellow color from the turmeric.
It contains no tea or coffee and it’s caffeine-free. Turmeric can stain teeth, so make sure to brush after drinking golden milk.
Note from Jee

I went through a few recipe tests to come up with this final recipe that I was super happy with. I first started out with a ton of different spices but narrowed it down to the essentials.
As for milk, oat milk was definitely the winner. It was way more flavorful and creamier than almond milk.
Turmeric stains like crazy, so make sure you clean the cup, milk frother, and your teeth right away!
Recipe Summary
- Made with ground turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon, this golden milk has the perfect balance of flavors.
- An electric milk frother is used for the best creamy consistency but you can also use a French press with great results.
- Ready in just 6 minutes, this turmeric latte is caffeine-free.
- The recipe is a serving of 16 ounces, which is about 2 cups, or a grande size at Starbucks.

Ingredient Notes

- Oat milk: You can use any kind of milk you like, including cow’s milk. Keep in mind that some milks, such as almond milk, won’t froth as much as oat milk.
- Ground turmeric: Use high-quality ground turmeric for the best flavor and nutrition.
- Ground ginger: The spicy notes of ginger pairs well with turmeric.
- Ground cinnamon: Cinnamon gives the drink a warm flavor.
- Maple syrup: Adds natural sweetness and depth to the drink. It also balances the intensity of turmeric. Instead of maple syrup, you can use honey or date syrup.
Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Add milk and maple syrup into an electric milk frother or saucepan.

Step 2: Add turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon.

Step 3: Froth in milk frother or simmer on low heat on stovetop for 5 minutes.

Step 4: Pour into a mug. Drink immediately.
Recipe Notes
Froth milk in a French press.
To froth milk using a French press, heat all ingredients on the stovetop in a saucepan, letting it come to a slow boil. Make sure not to boil the milk. Pour heated drink into the French press and close the lid. Pump 20 times, or until the golden milk doubles in volume. Make sure to only fill the French press halfway to leave room for the froth.
Use fresh spices.
For the most potent flavor, only use fresh spices. If your spices are old or expired, the flavor won’t be as good.
Expert Tips
- Turmeric can stain easily so clean the saucepan or milk frother immediately after use.
- For a less spicy drink, reduce the turmeric or omit the ginger.
- Make it sweeter by adding more maple syrup.
