Homemade Pineapple Iced Tea

This pineapple iced tea is a thirst-quenching drink made with pineapple juice and iced green tea. It only requires 4 ingredients and takes less than 5 minutes to prepare.

Pineapple juice pairs well with green tea and adds a fruity twist to this caffeinated drink.

Note from Jee

I like using tea sachets to make iced teas since the clean up is so easy but you can swap out the tea sachet with loose tea.

1 tea sachet usually contains 1 ½ teaspoons of tea, so for this recipe which uses 2 tea sachets, use 1 tablespoon of loose tea.

I don’t recommend using an expensive loose green tea since the subtle flavors of the tea will get lost once it’s mixed with the pineapple juice.

Recipe Summary

  • This refreshing iced tea is made with pineapple juice, green tea, water, and ice.
  • There’s no need to cool down the green tea ahead of time. Just mix with the pineapple juice and pour over ice.
  • No additional sugar is needed since the pineapple juice is naturally sweet.
  • The recipe makes 16 ounces (2 cups), but you can easily make a bigger batch for a party.

Tea Sommelier’s Notes

Don’t use boiling hot water to make tea.

My trick to getting perfect green tea for this drink is to use water that’s not boiling hot since green tea can easily get bitter if the water is too hot. Plus, the tea will cool down faster if it’s not very hot.

Don’t oversteep the tea.

Keep a timer on your phone handy to make sure the tea isn’t steeping for too long, which can make the green tea bitter. The general rule of thumb is to steep green tea for 2-3 minutes at most.

Any tea can be used.

Instead of green tea, feel free to swap it with a black tea or an oolong tea if that’s what you have. It’ll still taste great. Black tea will require a slightly longer steep time at 5 minutes.

Make the pineapple iced tea ahead of time.

Pineapple iced tea can be made in advance and stored in fridge for up to 3 days.

Expert Tips

  • Add a flavored simple syrup like strawberry or ginger for additional flavor. Just note that this will increase the sweetness.
  • Fresh, canned, or bottled pineapple juice can be used but make sure there is no or minimal sugar to keep the drink from being overly sweet.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs like mint or basil.

Boil water on the stovetop or use an electric kettle with a temperature setting. Set water temperature to 175°F.
