Tea Sommelier’s Notes

Don’t use boiling hot water.

Since ginger tea is an herbal infusion, it doesn’t need to be steeped at a specific temperature like green tea or black tea.

Using simmered water is recommended so that the tea can cool down more quickly than using boiling hot water.

You can steep ginger tea for longer.

Ginger tea can be steeped way past 5 minutes if you want a stronger ginger flavor. Since ginger tea is an herbal tea, it won’t get bitter if you steep it for longer.

Make the iced tea ahead of time.

Prepare the pineapple ginger iced tea in advance and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Expert Tips

  • Add honey or honey syrup for an additional layer of sweetness. Start with a teaspoon and adjust the sweetness from there.
  • Enjoy this iced tea right away as the ice may dilute the mixture.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs like mint or with lemon slices.

Questions You May Have

Can I substitute bottled pineapple juice with a canned one?

Pineapple juice is packaged in different ways. Fresh, bottled, or canned work for this recipe, but it’s best to use one that has little or no sugar.

How can I make this caffeinated?

To give this drink a little boost of caffeine, add in a green tea bag with the ginger tea bag and steep together using the same amount of water in the recipe.

Can I use ginger syrup instead of ginger tea?

Yes! You can combine pineapple juice with ginger syrup to create a similar flavor that’s quicker and easier to make, but it will definitely be a lot sweeter since there’s sugar in the ginger syrup.
