Homemade Apricot Iced Tea

Apricot juice and black tea are the main ingredients in this invigorating and fruity apricot iced tea.

When making an iced tea, the most important thing is to steep the black tea at the correct temperature and avoid brewing it for too long. This will keep the tea smooth, rather than bitter.

Any black tea works for this drink including English Breakfast tea or even Earl Grey. The apricot juice flavors the drink so it’s best to get apricot juice without added sugars for the best taste.

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for Apricot Iced Tea measured out in cups and bowls.
  • Black tea: Tea bags or tea sachets make cleanup easy. You can also use loose tea but there’s no need to use high-quality tea to make this drink since the tea is mixed with other ingredients.
  • Apricot juice: Use 100% apricot juice that doesn’t contain any additional sugars or sweeteners.
  • Sugar: This drink is made with white sugar, but other sweeteners will work. You can take the sugar out completely if you want it less sweet.
  • Water: Use filtered water for the best tasting iced tea.
  • Ice: If possible, also make ice with filtered water.

Tea Sommelier’s Notes

Steep the black tea properly.

Use the correct brewing time and temperature to steep the tea bags. The easiest way to do so is using an electric kettle with a temperature setting. If black tea is steeped for too long, it’ll become bitter and astringent.

Use tea bags, tea sachets, or loose tea.

Tea bags or sachets make cleanup easy and convenient but you can also use loose tea. Use 1 ½ teaspoons of black loose tea in place of 1 tea bag or sachet. For this recipe, you’ll need 1 tablespoon for each 16 ounce serving.

Make the iced tea ahead of time.

Apricot iced tea can be prepared in advanced and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. It’s best to combine the apricot juice and iced black tea right before serving.

  • Garnish the tea with fresh herbs like mint or basil.
  • This apricot iced tea can also be made with green tea instead of black tea. Use green tea bags in place of black tea bags.
