Starbucks offers a variety of tea drinks on their menu. There’s hot tea, tea lattes, iced tea, bottled tea, and frappuccinos. Here are all the tea beverages on the Starbucks menu.

Hot Brewed Teas

  • Hot brewed tea is made with 1-2 tea bags and hot filtered water that’s set to 200°F.
  • Hot tea drinks are not sweetened. If you want to add syrup, there will be an extra charge of $0.50.
  • The number of tea bags in a cup depends on the drink size. 1 tea bags goes into short and tall cups and 2 tea bags go into grande and venti cups.
  • The baristas at Starbucks do not take steeping time into account, so a good rule of thumb is to give white and green teas a 2-3 minute steep, and black and herbal teas 4-5 minutes.
  • Turn any hot tea into a tea latte. For an extra $0.60, you can add steamed milk to any hot tea. Note: milk does not taste great with every tea.
  • You can add an extra tea bag to your drink, you can do so for an extra $0.20 per tea bag.
  • For a sweetened citrus twist, add some steamed lemonade. This goes great with just about any hot tea.

Chai Tea
The chai, a black tea with spices like cinnamon, clove, and ginger, is made with Teavana chai tea bags and hot water. There’s no milk in this drink. Steep tea bags for 4-5 minutes. Leaving tea bags in the cup for longer will make the tea taste bitter.

Earl Grey Tea
Earl Grey is a black tea infused with bergamot, a citrus fruit. Vanilla goes well with Earl Grey so if you want to add a little something sweet, go for a vanilla syrup. (Note that there is an extra charge of $0.50 for syrups in hot tea.)

Royal English Breakfast Tea
This is Starbucks’ classic black tea and like most breakfast teas, it’s malty and slightly woody. A brisk, strong tea, it’s great with a little milk and sugar.

Emperor’s Clouds & Mist
When you order a hot green tea at Starbucks, this is what you’ll get. The name refers to the fact that this tea is grown 3,500 feet above sea level in China, where it’s common to be surrounded by mist and clouds. Don’t steep for longer than 3 minutes since green tea can get bitter quick. If you want a strong flavor, don’t steep it for longer, instead add another tea bag for $0.20.

Questions You May Have

The hot tea is too hot for me, how can I cool it down quickly?

If you’d like your tea slightly cooler to start off, ask your barista to add 1-2 ice cubes before adding in the hot water. Your water will still be plenty hot enough to adequately steep your tea, but not so hot as to burn your mouth. This is particularly important for green teas, which should be brewed at a lower water temperature.

Can I ask for the second tea bag on the side?

Yup, if you only want to add 1 tea bag per drink, you can ask for the second tea bag on the side and save the second one for later.

Where do I pick up hot tea at Starbucks?

If the Starbucks isn’t too busy, hot brewed teas are usually handed off at the register before you even walk away. If you’re in a rush, hot tea is the way to go.

  1. Hi. When I was a Barrista at Starbucks, we set timers fir the different types of teas we would brew for iced tea. We filled the pitcher 1/3 full with their brewing bags( which are larger than the customer purchased) we would steep the different teas according to timers. 5-7 mins depending on type of teas.
