Pineapple Ginger Cold Brew Tea

Pineapple Ginger Cold Brew Tea

I love the combination of pineapple and ginger. The sweet pineapple balances out the spicy kick from the fresh ginger. For this recipe, I’m using English breakfast tea but you can use any black tea you have. But, I would recommend not using Earl Grey tea since it’s a flavored black tea and the citrus flavor didn’t go so well with the pineapple and ginger.

I have a cold brew tea formula I like to use of 1 tea + 1 fruit + 1 citrus + 1 herb, but for this one, I changed it up and only used 2 ingredients in addition to the tea.

Starbucks had a pineapple ginger iced tea drink so I used that as inspiration for this flavor combo. It’s really good!

Recipe Notes

Use loose tea, tea sachets, or tea bags.
I used loose tea but you can use English breakfast tea bags or tea sachets.

Mash the pineapple using a muddler.
Chopping the pineapple into small pieces didn’t extract enough flavor so I used a muddler to mash up the pineapple in a smaller container.

Grate the ginger.
The ginger is grated to extract the flavor. If you don’t have a grater, mash it with the pineapple using a muddler.

Wash the pineapple and ginger.
Thoroughly wash to remove dirt and bacteria. Rinse under cold running water and rub with your hands. Don’t use dish soap.

Strain out solids after 24 hours.
Make sure you take it out all solids after 24 hours. Leaving any solids in the cold brew tea can accelerate bacterial growth.

Drink within 3 days.
Fruit-infused cold brew is best when consumed in 3 days after straining the solids since there is increased risk of bacterial growth. From the day you put the cold brew tea and fruit into the refrigerator to the day you have your last sip, it should be 4 days total.

Use filtered water.
I always recommend using filtered water to make tea.

You’ll need 2 containers of the same size with one for cold brewing, and another one to strain the drink into.

Pineapple Ginger Cold Brew Tea

Juicy pineapple and fresh ginger are a delicious combo in this cold brew tea.
Prep Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 12 hours 3 minutes
Yield: 3 servings

Ingredients 

  • 1 ½ tablespoons English breakfast tea, (or 3 tea bags/sachets)
  • 1 cup pineapple, chopped
  • 1 inch fresh ginger
  • 3 cups water, cold or room temperature

Instructions 

  • In a sturdy container, mash or muddle the chopped pineapple.
  • Peel the fresh ginger then grate into the same container as the pineapple.
    Use a spoon to scrape off the peel of the ginger. If you don't have a grater, you can chop up the ginger and mash/muddle it.
  • In a container or pitcher, combine all ingredients. Cover and refrigerate for 12-24 hours.
    Stir to make sure the tea leaves touch the water.
  • Use a strainer to remove all solids.
    The tea, pineapple, and ginger should not be left in the drink more than 24 hours.
  • Pour tea into a cup.
    Serve with or without ice. The tea can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
