Watermelon Cold Brew Black Tea

I knew watermelon would be the perfect fruit to add to my cold brew tea and it did not disappoint! I tested this recipe multiple times using different combinations of herbs and citrus and I can say this recipe I’m sharing with you was the best one.

Cold brew tea is a method in making tea where no hot water is used. Tea and cold or room temperature water are combined and placed in the refrigerator for hours. This brewing technique creates a smooth and mellow tea flavor.

My Fruit-Infused Cold Brew Tea Formula

Here is my cold brew tea formula that I use as a guideline.

Tea + 1 Fruit + 1 Citrus + 1 Herb

For this cold brew, I used English breakfast tea as my tea, fresh watermelon as my fruit, lemon as my citrus, and mint as my herb. I added sugar to this one, which I normally don’t but the extra sweetness made it so much better.

Recipe Notes

Any black tea can be used.
I used English breakfast tea, but you can use Assam or Ceylon tea.

Wash the fruit, including the lemon.
Thoroughly wash all fruit and herbs to remove dirt and bacteria. Rinse under cold running water and rub with your hands. Don’t use dish soap.

Strain out solids after 24 hours.
Make sure you take it out all solids after 24 hours. Leaving any solids in the cold brew tea can accelerate bacterial growth.

Drink it the same day it’s made.
I usually recommend drinking the tea within 3 days after straining out the solids, but since this recipe includes a little sugar, I would drink it the same day it’s made. The sugar increases risk of bacterial growth.

Use filtered water.
I always use filtered water to make tea since better water means a better tasting tea.
