Recipe Summary

  • I’m a Tea Sommelier and this recipe is from week 2 of my hot tea blend series on Instagram and TikTok.
  • This recipe uses my hot tea blend formula.
  • It’s a caffeine-free tea made with 4 ingredients.

Hot Tea Blend Formula

I have a hot tea formula I’ve developed that makes it easy to make your own hot tea blend. It’s 1 tea + 1 fruit + 1 spice or botanic.

For this tea, I’m using hibiscus tea as my tea, guava juice as my fruit, and ground cinnamon as my spice.

Since fresh fruit is out of season in the winter, I use freeze-dried fruit or fruit juice instead.

Ingredient Notes

  • Hibiscus tea: I prefer using loose hibiscus tea but you can use tea bags.
  • Guava juice: Get guava juice without any added sugar.
  • Ground cinnamon: You can use a cinnamon stick and steep it with the tea if you don’t have ground cinnamon.
  • Water: Use filtered water if possible.

Recipe Notes

You can steep hibiscus tea for longer.
Unlike black tea or green tea, herbals teas like hibiscus can be steeped for longer without getting bitter. Steeping it for longer will get you a stronger hibiscus flavor.

Use an electric kettle with temperature setting.
When it comes to making tea, I always recommend using an electric kettle with a temperature setting so you know exactly how hot the water is.

Use boiling hot water.
If you’re using an electric kettle with a temperature setting, set it to 212°F. All herbals should be steeped in boiling hot water. If you’re heating water on the stovetop, bring the water to a rolling boil, which means the water is at 212°F.
