Espresso and Real Lavender

An iced lavender latte is a cold coffee drink flavored with lavender. It’s a latte so the drink is made with espresso and milk.

This version uses a quick and easy lavender syrup that takes just 5 minutes to make. It uses real dried lavender buds for the best flavor.

Note from Jee

This drink tastes like a regular latte but with the addition of sweet, floral notes from the lavender syrup. I like to make this drink with oat milk.

If you want to make this caffeine-free, without any espresso, you can make just the lavender milk to make it an iced tea latte.

Please make sure you get food-grade lavender buds or lavender tea to make this drink. NEVER use lavender from the flower shop since they’re contaminated with chemicals.

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for iced lavender latte on a gray background.
  • Espresso: You can use your favorite light or dark roasted coffee to make espresso.
  • Dried lavender buds: Make sure the lavender is food-grade. This means it’s safe to use in drinks. Instead of loose lavender buds, you can use 1 lavender tea bag.
  • Sugar: This recipe uses granulated white sugar. You can use brown sugar, which will give the drink a deeper color.
  • Milk: Feel free to use your favorite dairy or plant-based milk. I like it with whole milk or oat milk.
  • Water: For the best flavor, use filtered water.
  • Ice: Ice made with filtered water will taste best.

Recipe Notes

Use food-grade lavender.

Never use lavender buds from the flower shop, because they’re likely treated with pesticides. Only use food-grade lavender, which is safe to use in drinks and food. Food-grade lavender is sometimes called culinary lavender or lavender tea.

Steep lavender buds longer for a stronger taste.

For the best taste, let the lavender buds steep for at least 5 minutes. You can steep it for longer for a stronger lavender taste.

Replace the espresso with instant coffee.

If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can prepare this drink with instant coffee. For every 2 shots of espresso, combine 1 tablespoon of instant coffee with ¼ cup of hot water.

Expert Tips

  • Use 1 shot of espresso or 1 Nespresso capsule for a less caffeinated, less strong drink.
  • To make this drink richer, whip cream with a handheld milk frother for 30-50 seconds. The whipped cream is ready once it forms soft peaks that hold their shape.
  • Top off the drink with lavender cold foam for even more lavender flavor.
