Refreshing and sweet, this limeade comes together in 3 minutes. The recipe is delicious, quick, and easy to make.

Tart and Sweet
Limeade is a refreshing drink made with lime juice, sugar, water, and ice. Compared to lemon juice, lime juice is more bitter and less sour. This makes limeade a great option if you want something less tart than lemonade.
Enjoy this limeade at pool parties, picnics, or whenever you need to cool down on a warm day.
Note from Jee

I tasted and tested this drink multiple times to get the perfect balance of sweet and tart, and I can say that this recipe is just right. I first tried making this drink using the same ratio of ingredients to make lemonade but it was way too tart. After tweaking the recipe, I was very happy with how this came out.
If you want to round out the flavors a bit more, you can add a couple of drops of vanilla extract to the drink. It will still taste great without it though, so I’ll leave it for you to try.

Ingredient Notes

- Lime juice: For the best flavor, use freshly squeezed lime juice. Look for limes that are heavy for their size, which means they have a lot of juice.
- Sugar: Use granulated white sugar, which will dissolve easily. Brown sugar or honey can be used in place of white sugar, but it will change the color of the drink.
- Water: Filtered water will taste best in this recipe.
- Ice: If possible, use ice made with filtered water.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Dissolve sugar in hot water to make a simple syrup.

Step 2: Add cold water.

Step 3: Add lime juice.

Step 4: Pour limeade into a cup of ice. Drink immediately.
Recipe Notes
Use fresh lime juice.
Fresh lime juice tastes better than the bottled version. Use a citrus juicer to ensure the juice is clear and free of pulp and seeds.
For this recipe, you’ll need 3 tablespoons of lime juice. One medium lime has about 2 tablespoons of juice, so you’ll need one and a half limes.
Make sure the sugar fully dissolves.
To avoid a grainy drink, use hot water when making the simple syrup. This will ensure the sugar dissolves completely. The water doesn’t need to be boiling hot. Simply simmer the water so it’s warm enough to dissolve the sugar.
Prepare the limeade ahead of time.
This limeade can be made in advance. Store it in the fridge without ice for up to 3 days, then add the ice just before serving.
Expert Tips
- Instead of the quick simple syrup, use strawberry simple syrup or ginger simple syrup for a different flavor profile.
- Add extra lime juice for a stronger lime flavor.
- Garnish the glass with thinly sliced limes or fresh herbs, like mint.
