This easy and simple watermelon lemonade tastes like summer in a cup! It uses fresh watermelon and takes only 3 minutes to make at home.

Homemade Watermelon Lemonade
Watermelon lemonade is a refreshing, caffeine-free fruity drink. The mild, cool flavor of watermelon complements the tartness of lemon juice.
Tasted and tested, my recipe uses fresh lemon juice and real watermelon. It tastes perfectly sweet and tart.
Note from Jee

Ripe watermelon is so sweet and refreshing on a hot summer day and once it’s mixed with tart lemonade, it’s my perfect summer drink. I absolutely love it.
Here’s my watermelon tip: To pick the best watermelon for this recipe, go for one that has a large yellow sunspot. The larger the yellow spot, the sweeter the watermelon.

Ingredient Notes

- Watermelon: Since you’ll need to puree the watermelon in a blender, avoid watermelon with seeds. Use the seedless variety.
- Lemon juice: If possible, use freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of the bottled version. Be sure to use ripe lemons, which will feel heavy and plump. This is a sign that there’s a lot of juice in the lemon.
- Sugar: White sugar, or granulated sugar, is typically used to make simple syrup. You can also use brown sugar, but note that the simple syrup will be brown.
- Water: For the best flavor, use filtered water to make the simple syrup and watermelon juice.
- Ice: If possible, use ice made with filtered water the best quality drink.

Recipe Notes
Use fresh lemon juice.
Avoid bottled lemon juice, which often has a poor quality flavor. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is brighter and tastier. To squeeze lemons quickly, use a citrus juicer. You’ll need to squeeze about half a lemon to get 2 tablespoons of juice.
Change the proportion of juices.
For a stronger watermelon flavor, use more watermelon. If you want a more lemon taste, increase the lemon juice.
Make the lemonade ahead of time.
You can prepare this watermelon lemonade in advance and save it in the fridge without ice. This way, it won’t become diluted. Use within 3 days and add the ice just before drinking.
Expert Tips
- For a different flavor profile, use strawberry syrup, hibiscus syrup, or ginger syrup in this watermelon lemonade.
- If you want a less sweet drink, skip the simple syrup.
- Drink the watermelon lemonade right after you make it. If it sits for too long, the ice will melt and make the drink watery.
- Add lemon slices, watermelon chunks, or fresh mint as a garnish.
